What would a message board be without random musings? I was browsing through Amazon today when I spotted LadyJai's name on the reviews of one of the books I was looking at. Even more amazing, she had written the review today. How's that for a coincidence. Anyway, since we're unlikely to cross paths at the supermarket (and even less likely to know that we did!), it's cool to have random run-ins internet style.

Ella, I enjoyed your post. And it inspired a question in my mind: What are you writers reading? I'm not proposing a critique or discussion, I'm just curious what books others happen to be cracking open lately. If you don't mind sharing, post a reply.
Here's mine:
To my kids I'm reading The Puppy Place books by Ellen Miles (currently we're on "Scout") and a lot of Mo Willems pbs
For my critique group/writers book club this month we're reading Across the Universe by Beth Revis and I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore
For fun I'm reading Boneshaker by Cherie Priest
It's been fun to watch a new kind of critique group/writers group taking form here. Looking forward to more!

Oh how cool is that! I've been a part of the "small world" community since the day I was born! Military life is a VERY small community, believe it or not! And I believe that the internet makes it even smaller!
Hope my review was worth while! Which book was it?
As for what I'm reading...it varies. I'm constantly reading, especially now that I have my e-reader! I had taking a reading (as well as a writing) hiatus for several years. I'm so happy to be back into it.
The last books I read were old Stephen King books. I finally finished the Sword of Truth Series, and now have been bouncing around.
I'm reading picture books for research (my son thinks it's funny!)
I've been winning some free books from GoodReads and LibraryThing that require reviews. I've only received a few so far.
And now, as I wait for my next book, I am reading The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place by Maryrose Wood.
I'm not sure if all these are "research" but I do feel that it keeps me inspired and encouraged to write more. Like Stephen King says, "If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that." I just wish there was more time in my days to do everything I want to do.

LadyJai, the world just got smaller: my husband's in the Air Force. Oh, and the book was "Cat Secrets" -- totally cute. Lessee... My daughter is a huge bibliophile, so every week we read a couple dozen picture books, early readers, and early chapter books in the name of literacy and mommy research. This week, for example, I got a couple of the Trucktown books to see what all the fuss is about. Like Gwen, we're big Mo Willems fans. I also read my daughter 1-2 chapter books a week (eg, we are working through Magic Tree House #29 right now.) I also read some literary and nonfiction picture books for myself that don't suite my four-year old's temperment. At this point in my life, I read very little adult material that isn't either related to school or to writing research. Right now I'm on a big nonfiction kick. Yesterday, for instance, I checked books out from the library about the Crusades, inventions, pottery, natural disasters, and local history. I'm nothing if not eclectic. And to clarify, three of those are for queries and two are for PBs, so it's not as insane as it sounds.
