Dear Editor:
I am pleased to submit my manuscript to you, knowing that (Publisher's name) helps children and families deal with issues in their day to day lives.
Haley's First Day is a 580-word picture book for ages 5-9 in which a child who stutters must face her first day at a new school. Halely's dread at being asked to read aloud compounds the fear that once her classmates discover her problem, no one will want to be her friend. She finds however, that not everyone in the class sees her as just a girl who stutters.
I grew up the same way, a stutterer afraid of being asked to read aloud, embarrassed when trying to speak in front of people. Incredibly, I now make my living doing just that as "The Storylady" at the Sherwood Public Library. My passion for storytelling and writing is the inspiration for my teacher resource book, Cliffhanger Writing Prompts, releasing this summer with Scholastic Resources. My blog about Storytime at the library can be found at teresathestorylady.blogspot.com. I have also ventured into acting on stage and have had two scripts published with Drama Ministry Magazine. I am a member of SCBWI.
Thank you for your consideration of Haley's First Day as a title for (Publisher's name). This is a simultaneous submission.
