Dear Ms. (Agent),
I’m very excited to see a newer agency accepting submissions for picture books. I have seen your site featured on several blogs and have enjoyed the interviews you have given. I would like to offer Walter Bear for your consideration—a 688 word picture book combining science fact with fantasy to introduce the microscopic water dwelling critters known as the water bear.
Stuck alone on a comet, Walter is a lonely water bear who wishes for a friend to share his fun. After a bump to his home, he’s hurtled through space where he hears someone call his name and he goes off to search for who it was. Landing on Earth, he travels through many different habitats (all where you can find a real water bear) until he lands in the hands of the one who called out to him. Still left with one dilemma, his size, he makes one more wish.
I really enjoyed the interview you gave with Krista V author of MotherWrite’s Blogspot. One comment that struck a chord with me was the fact you do not enjoy being addressed as Mr. I hate being called “Mister” too! I am familiar with a few of the fine books and authors you represent. Bob Logan’s Sea of Bath was a really fun read. I believe Walter Bear would make a unique addition to your list. I have not found any picture books that weave science fact with a little fantasy.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in English with a Writing Concentration. I am currently attending local SCBWI and Florida Writer’s Association meetings. I also have several picture book manuscripts that are works in progress and close to submission ready. I hope you will find Walter Bear worth adding and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
(LadyJai)
