There are several potential markets for this book. Since it combines science with the fantastical world of children's reading, the picture book would be an introductory read for young readers and parents alike. It also has potential for introducing the science of the water bear to elementary school children. There is also the geek factor, and could be marketed to the "geek parent" who wants to start their children on the path to geekdom.
Since I was inspired to write this picture book from a couple of sources, I would like to be able to contact both companies and see if they would offer the picture book in their stores.
1) I learned about these critters through Animal Planet's Most Extreme TV series. I believe that this picture book would be a good addition to their store.
2) I would also like to contact the creator of GiantMicrobes and see if we could do a joint marketing effort. With the established base of GiantMicrobes, I could see if they could offer the picture book/water bear plush combo. (they already sell a water bear plush). GiantMicrobes already has a wide and diverse customer base, from the geek to the teacher. They also offer several bloggers a chance to review items and do giveaways. I think this would be a great pairing.
Other marketing ideas would be book marks and stickers of Walter in each of the water bear habitats. Store displays would be an eye catching idea. Offering book giveaways in conjunction with #2 above (on Good Reads and LibraryThing.com as well as school/science teacher's blogs). School visits. And here where I live, I could donate my book and volunteer my time to the "Mayor Peyton's Book Club" (A program to help pre-schoolers get ready to read).
